I didnt know idol was in an accident, therefore i would have know idea he was afraid to fly.would some1 please eloborate on "the accident".id like to see some articles about it to familiarize myself with this bit of history, thanks. In Feb. 1975, Idol (wrestling as "Iron" Mike McCord) boarded a plane flew by wrestler Buddy Colt w/ Gary Hart & Bobby Shane (who gave Lawler his first crown) as passengers. They were flying from Miami to Tampa. They ran into bad weather and crashed into Hillsboro Bay. All the boys got out of the plane and dispite their injuries, tried to rescue Shane who died. Colts in ring career was ended. Hart suffered a broken back and other injuries, but did return later to his role as a manager. McCord suffered severe injuries to his feet & broken ribs. At first it was beleived that McCords injuries would keep him out of the ring. He disappeared for a few years & then suddenly appeared in Texas in 1978 w/ a new hair color and more muscular body. He soon arrived in Memphis and the rest is history.............. Mark

I was always an Austin Idol mark as a kid, but I'd never heard this story either until now. I guess it all makes sense...
