Well, let me kick off this area of the board by saying that I've been a fan of Memphis/Tennessee wrestling since about 1967. I can remember all the great tag teams that came out of this area. Don and Al Greene, the Interns, the Von Brauners, the Mighty Yankees, Tojo and Jarrett, Len Rossi and Bearcat Brown. Many great memories and I watched them all up until when they stopped running the Lexington/Louisville TV markets back in the 90's. Looking forward to hearing from others that remember this era or just from others that might have questions about it.
Bill
Thanks Ken for a great site.

I heard that all the new boys that came through the area were always booked against Tojo during this era. I am familiar w/ Tojos work later in his career, mostly as a part time wrestler and manager. As everyone knows, Tojo was no big guy. Does anyone know if he was legit tough? I know he was Hawaiian, not Japanese as he was billed, but was he skilled in any martial art? Any info on his early career would be greatly appreciated i.e. were he started, how he got his start, who he worked for besides Gulas/Jarrett, etc. Most of this era was abit before my time as I became a huge fan around 1974.
Thanks in advance.
Mark

I think I remember hearing that Tojo's chops were extremely painful to his opponents. He never pulled them. Tojo is truely one of the sad stories in wrestling. The business was his life and without it he became a recluse and eventually took his life.

Either way you look at it,tojo taking his own life is sad in its own right, but i thought i remember him having pancreatic cancer,or something like that.
